Police: Suspect shot himself in head after chase

- A man is in grave condition after police say he shot himself in the head while attempting to run away from officers.

According to Atlanta Police, Zone 6 officers observed a stolen car at a Glenwood Avenue gas station in East Atlanta.

When the officers approached the two suspects pumping gas into the car, they say the suspects fled on foot.

During the chase, police say one of the suspects "suddenly shot himself in the head with a handgun." Neither officer fired their service weapon, the report said.

The injured suspect is in critical condition and has now been transported to Atlanta Medical Center. The second suspect, a juvenile who could be as young as 13 years old, is being questioned.

Officials say both suspects were armed and their weapons have been recovered from the scene.

The Atlanta Police Department has asked the GBI to investigate the incident. Authorities told FOX 5 News that they have surveillance video and body cam footage that they'll be looking at.
