WATCH: North Korea celebrates New Year’s Eve with terrifying war-themed display

NORTH KOREA residents celebrated New Year’s Eve with a chilling fireworks display while despot leader Kim Jong-un used his message to threaten nuclear war on Donald Trump.

leader Kim Jong-un warned a “nuclear button is always on my desk” as he took aim at the US during his New Year’s address in Pyongyang.

Speaking from the North Korea capital, said: “The entire United States is within range of our nuclear weapons, and a nuclear button is always on my desk. This is reality, not a threat."

The dictator also declared that North Korea had reached full nuclear force in 2017 and called for the mass-production of nukes and missiles in the year ahead as tensions continue to rise with the US.

He said: “We achieved the goal of completing our state nuclear force in 2017.

”We need to mass-produce nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles and accelerate their deployment."

But while their leader sparked further fears, North Koreans gathered in Pyongyang to celebrate the beginning of 2018 with a terrifying fireworks display.

The theme, of course, depicted Kim Jong-un’s race to create an arsenal of deadly ICBMs.

North Korea also unfurled ice sculptures in the shape of the deadly weapons they have promised to unload on the US.

In one ghastly image, children pose for a photo in front of an ice sculpture depicting an ICBM self-propelled launcher with the North Korean flag waving behind it.

Another image shows children and adults smiling in front of ICBMs while some take photographs on their phones.

And another photo shows a group of men in front of an ICBM with lighting at the bottom to simulate a launch.

The sculptures were part of the New Year celebrations at the Pyongyang Ice Sculpture Festival on Kim Il Sung Square.

Responding to the terrifying address, former joint chiefs chairman Mike Mullen said the US is closer than ever to a nuclear war, with little opportunity to defuse the situation diplomatically.

He told ABC: “The top of the list is North Korea.

“We’re actually closer, in my view, to a nuclear war with North Korea, and in that region, than we’ve ever been.

“I just don’t see how… I don’t see the opportunities to solve this diplomatically at this particular point.”
