A 30 year old notorious gangster, carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with the joint teams of Delhi Police Special cell and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Muzaffarnagar Police. Identified as Shamim, the criminal was intercepted near Jansath area with his two associates on Saturday night.
Shamim was wanted in several cases of armed robberies. In the exchange of fire, a constable of UP police too sustained bullet injuries.
Pramod Singh Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell said, “An encounter took place on the intervening night of December 30 and 31 where a team under Inspector Shiv Kumar along with teams from UP Police laid a trap in Muzzafarnagar when they received an information about the movement of Shamim. In an exchange of fire between the police teams and the criminals, Shamim died while his associate managed to escape.”
Shamim, who has been active in the world of crime for past 14 years was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 each by Delhi Police and UP Police.
In 2016, he along with his associates committed a sensational robbery of Rs 40 lakhs on gun point under the jurisdiction of Daryaganj police station.
Trailing Shamim for more than a month, sleuths of Special Cell received information that Shamim will be coming to commit crime in the area of Jansaath in Muzaffarnagar.
“Information was shared with the UP Police and a team of SOG UP Police and local police joined the operation. The joint team took positions at the place of information accordingly. At about 10:50pm, during intervening night of December 30 and 31 accused Shamim along with one associate was spotted in a Swift car no. DL8CT 3192 near police post Bhalwa in Muzaffarnagar. Shamim and his associate were asked to surrender but they opened fire on police teams. In self-defence police team also fired back.
During the exchange of fire Inspector Shiv Kumar got hit on his bulletproof jacket and one constable Ashok Khari of UP police was grievously injured. Accused Shamim and his associate were also injured, however associate of Shamim managed to escape under cover of darkness and accused Shamim was found injured in the car,” said Kushwah.
DCP said that one pistol of 9 mm bore, was found with him. Injured constable Ashok Khari and Shamim, were immediately taken to the hospital where Shamim was declared brought dead while Constable Ashok Khari is undergoing treatment.
Kushwah said that Shamim had been indulging in criminal activities for the last 14 years. Initially he committed small thefts but, thereafter he started a gang and started committing daylight robberies or dacoity. He was arrested for the first time in 2007 in 5 cases of Theft, Robbery, Arms Act, Attempt to murder .
He was also booked
in Gangster Act in the same year. After that he, along with his associates frequently indulged in committing heinous crime at gun point like board daylight robberies, dacoity, house breaking etc. He and his associates were so desperate that they never hesitated in opening fire on police personnel when confronted by police.
In 2006, Shamim and his associates opened fire on SHO Manglor during an encounter with UP Police.
