Three Goat Resource Centres will be set up, one each in blocks namely Satbarwa, Lesliganj and Paton, said DDC Sushant Gaurav. These centers will be under the care and control of Sakhi Mandals along with trained goat personnel.
“We are trying to build a fleet of vets. These vets will be attached to these centers and would be known as Pashu Shakhi” said the DDC adding that land for these three centers at Satbarwa, Lesliganj and Paton have been identified and would be established and made functional by the end of this financial year.
The DDC also said that mortality rate in goats of Jharkhand is on the upper side, i.e. 30 per cent. “Our aim is to reduce and restrict it to 8 per cent. These GRCs will be a milestone in goat rearing, upkeep and other related affairs of it in times to come. The idea to promote goat culture came to us from Goat Research Centre in Angara in Ranchi which has worked for the longevity of goats,” added the official.
Goats are considered cash animal in the villages of the State. Palamu district has already 15 such goat centers said district programme manager Kumar DB Singh. Singh said these ‘Goat Clubs’ are in Satbarwa block and another is coming up for Chhaterpur block.
Singh further said “If there are 200 to 250 goats in a 100 household in any village or panchayat then there is going to be a Pashu Shakhi there to act as service provider. Pashu Shakhi will lend a helping hand in medication of sick and ailing goats like administering injections, giving oral medication, goat vaccination etc.”
