Panthapath hotel blast; Another militant arrested

Law enforcers have arrested a top leader of banned militant outfit Neo-JMB in connection with the 'planned attack' from a militant hideout at hotel Olio International at Panthapath in capital Dhaka on August 15 last year.

A joint team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, intelligence wing of Police headquarters and Bogra district police conducted a drive in house building area of Uttara sector 7 around 7:00pm on Sunday and arrested Mamun, 21, a Surah member of Neo JMB.

Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the matter.

During primary interrogation, Mamun confessed that he is a bomb-making expert and was one of those who had planned to carry out a militant attack, reports UNB.

Earlier on August 15, police conducted an anti-militant drive "August Bite" at the hotel and prevented a possible attack on those marching towards Dhanmondi road No 32, marking the Mourning Day.

Saiful Islam, son of Abul Khayer of Dumuria upazila in Khulna, was killed in the drive.

On August 16, a case was filed in the connection. Investigation report said arrested Tanvir Yeasin Karin and fugitive Akram Hossain Khan Niloy are the mastermind and fund provider, both of them are top leaders of banned Islamic militant outfit Neo-JMB.
