Shooting in Polk City leaves 2 men dead, woman injured

Two men are dead and one woman is in the hospital following a domestic dispute that turned deadly in Polk City on Saturday night.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office received a call at 7:54 p.m. about three people who were shot on Evans Road, spokesman Brian Bruchey said. The Sheriff's Office has not yet released the names of those involved, but it did say the people are related.

A husband and wife who were visiting from Kentucky went out for dinner, where they got in an argument, Bruchey said. They continued arguing at the home of their niece and nephew, with whom they were visiting, he said. The nephew tried to help but was shot by the uncle. As the niece tried to help, the uncle also shot her, Bruchey said.

The uncle then committed suicide, he said.

The niece was taken to Lakeland Regional Health to be treated, Bruchey said. The aunt, who witnessed the shootings, also was taken there.
