The year gone by was quite a disappointment as far as Bollywood is concerned. Barring a few films, most of them failed to fair well at the Box Office and impress the audiences. However, if there is one credit that you would want to give to the filmmakers this year, it would be for experimenting with some new lead jodis such as Ayushmann Khurrana–Parineeti Chopra in Meri Pyaari Bindu, Hrithik Roshan–Yami Gautam in Kaabil, Sidharth Malhotra–Jacqueline Fernandez in A Gentleman and so on and so forth. For the longest time, makers would play safe by going onto cast the popular pairs in films to attract the audiences, failing to fathom the fact, that these jodis too were casted for the first time by a director. With fresher faces, directors have now newer pairings to toy around with. And when it comes to newer pairings, 2018 is only getting started. # Akshay Kumar – Mouni Roy, Gold
This is definitely a jodi we’re all looking forward to see in 2018. We bet Mouni Roy couldn’t have asked for a better and a more grand Bollywood debut than this period sports biopic, which will have her star opposite Akshay Kumar. Helmed by Reema Kagti and bankrolled by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment, the film is based on the veteran hockey player Balbir Singh Sr’s life, who was part of the team that won India its first Olympic gold medal as a free nation in 1948.
# Varun Dhawan – Anushka Sharma, Sui Dhaaga
The never-seen-before pair, Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma will be seen as the lead pair of Sui Dhaaga, which happens to be a film based on the Make In India campaign. Helmed by Sharat Katariya, director of the critically acclaimed film Dam Laga Ke Haisha-which gave us a hit jodi in Ayushmann Khurrana-Bhumi Pednekar, we would like to see if Kataria can work his charm with Varun and Anushka as well.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan– Rajkummar Rao, Fanne Khan
In debutant director Atul Manjrekar’s film, Fanne Khan, which is slated to hit screens on Eid next year, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen romancing Rajkummar Rao, who is ten years younger to her. While this will not be the first time that the diva will be seen romancing a younger actor on screen, this pairing has us intrigued from the word go. Seeing Aishwarya’s chemistry with Ranbir in her last outing, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, we’re definitely looking forward to this jodi. Don’t you agree?
Prabhas – Shraddha Kapoor, Saaho
After seeing Prabhas’ crackling chemistry with rumoured girlfriend Anushka Shetty in the Baahubali franchise, fans certainly wanted them to share screen space once again in the upcoming action drama, Saaho. The makers, however, decided to go in with Shraddha Kapoor, instead of Anushka. Now who saw this coming? While fans were mighty upset at first, they’re definitely intrigued now.
Alia Bhatt – Vicky Kaushal, Raazi
What happens when two of the best actors of Bollywood— Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal—come together for an interesting thriller, helmed by a noteworthy director, Meghna Gulzaar? Of course, Raazi. Well if all these reasons aren’t enough to drive you to the theatres, we don’t know what will!
