A Weld County Sheriff’s Deputy shot an armed suspect after a chase on Sunday morning.
The Deputy was working a DUI shift at 2:41 a.m. and observed a vehicle speeding on Colorado Highway 52 and College Avenue in Fort Lupton. The driver refused to stop and the deputy gave chase.
The vehicle came to a stop in the 200 block of McKinley Avenue. “The suspect was armed with a handgun. The deputy discharged his weapon,” according to a sheriff’s release.
The suspect was taken to a hospital and his condition is unknown, the release said. The deputy was not injured.
A Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the incident.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
