Argentinian star Álvarez to perform at ROHM today

Muscat -

The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) will host Argentinian star, Marcelo Raúl Álvarez, one of the most important tenors in the world of opera on Sunday.

Acclaimed for his interpretation of classic belcanto and spinto roles, Álvarez is also internationally renowned as an interpreter of tango and traditional Spanish and Italian songs, stated a press release.

Since the beginning of his career in 1994, Álvarez has won many prestigious awards while maintaining an active touring schedule with debuts in more than 34 roles, including at top venues such as New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro San Carlo, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Zurich Opera House and the National Theatre Munich.

Early in his career Álvarez achieved recognition as a skilled interpreter of Verdi, with more than 150 performances of Alfredo in La Traviata and the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto as signature roles. An exceptionally prolific performer, Álvarez debuted in the title role in Massenet’s Werther in 1997, followed by performances over the next nine years in a total of eight opera houses including London, Vienna and Munich.

Similarly, this energetic star performed in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor appearing in ten opera houses in just six years. At ROHM, Marcello Álvarez will sing in a fabulous gala concert with the PKF-Prague Philharmonia Orchestra led by the orchestra’s distinguished music director and chief conductor, Emmanuel Villaume.

Also featured in the concert are two outstanding artistes: The formidable, internationally acclaimed American pianist, Andrew von Oeyen, and rising star, soprano, Marina Monzó. It all adds up to a wonderful celebration of the power and magic of great music. The event will be held at 6.30pm.
