“Outta’ My Mind on a Monday Moanin’”
Happy New Year!
As we embark on this new journey together, we are reminded how fast 2017 flew by.
I want to step back about 13 years (which also flew by) to Dec. 30, 2005. I found an email with that date with me suggesting a column similar to one I grew up reading: “Outta’ My Mind on a Monday Moanin’” by the late Bob Talbert. This past November, I received a lovely email from Bob’s wife, Lynn Talbert , with helpful information for my listeners. Lynn also reminded me Bob’s been gone now more than 18 years. Hard to believe. (You too?)
My never-ending gratitude goes to Nolan Finley for giving me the chance to express myself in print rather than just over the airways. Thanks go to my first editor, Richard Burr, to my current one, Kaitlyn Buss. And for the guidance and friendship of my other boss, Ingrid Jacques.
Wait a minute, this sounds like I’m going somewhere, like one of those “Goodbye, it’s been great” columns. While it has been great, I hope to be around a lot longer writing this thing and making it better!
Here are a couple of snippets from the first column 13 years ago:
■How can stores that so clearly didn’t celebrate “Christmas” be having “after-Christmas sales?”
■There is nothing good about getting paid to do nothing. (*Reference, I assume, to the old Jobs Bank.)
■A CEO who is blamed for running his company into the ground should not be made even wealthier when shown the door.
All still true.
And I continue searching for anything to make Mondays worth looking forward to.
You too?
