Greater Noida: Two smugglers were arrested on Friday night in Dankaur and huge quantity of illegal liquor was seized from them. The smugglers have been identified as Chandra Prakash (25), a resident of Faridabad and Pawan (26), a resident of Dankaur.

Farmood Ali Pundir, SHO, Dankaur police station, said they received a tip-off about movement of smugglers in the area. "We deployed a police team at Sikandrabad bypass road at night. Two men came in a Maruti Alto. The team signalled them to stop and asked them to show the papers of vehicle, but they failed to do so," Pundir said.

Cops then found 16 cartons of illegal liquor, a country-made gun and two live cartridges in the car. The arrested men said they smuggled liquor from Haryana and sold them in Greater Noida. "The price of liquor in Haryana is cheaper than in Greater Noida. This time, we aimed to sell the liquor on New Year eve," Pawan told the police.

"We've registered a case against them under Excise Act. They were produced in court from where they were sent to judicial custody," said Pundir.
