West Bengal man held with counterfeit currency notes

THANE: The Anti Narcotics Cell police arrested a person allegedly for possessing counterfeit currency with face-value of Rs 2.03 lakh late on Friday night from Cidco area.
The police said that the accused Mohammad Babar Sirajul Ali, 26, presently residing at Wadala, and native Malda in West Bengal was nabbed, after the sleuths laid a trap.

Based on a tip-off received from the network of informers that some person shall be coming near Cidco bus stand to pump the counterfeit currency, accordingly the sleuths laid a trap and apprehended the accused at around 6.45 pm near bus stand, said a police officer.

Upon carrying out the body search of the accused, the police initially found 82 notes of Rs 2000 and some of the notes were of Rs 500.

Subsequently, the sleuths for verification took the notes to a nationalized bank and checked the notes who tagged it as fake and even the normal the quality, design as well as printing was distorted to the naked eye, said the officer.


Subsequently, the case has been registered at Thane nagar police station under 489 (b) (c) of Indian Penal Code.


"We are trying to find out the other links of the accused if any as there could be many more persons living like them," said the officer.


This could be tip of iceberg as primary probe revealed that one other accomplice of the arrested accused has fled away and may have likely to be tracked soon.
