Woman stuns police as she wriggles out of handcuffs and steals patrol car in 100mph chase

DASHCAM video footage captures the incredible moment a woman wriggles out of handcuffs and steals a police patrol car.

Mia Victoria Thornton, from South Carolina, USA, was detained after allegedly stealing a man’s car.

The alleged incident occurred when the driver stopped to give her a lift after noticing her vehicle had broken down.

But when the pair approached a crossroads, the 21-year-old allegedly grabbed the steering wheel and caused a crash.

Police claim that when the driver got out to check if anyone was hurt, Thornton simply hopped into his seat and drove off.

It was short-lived, though.

Just a few minutes later, she crashed the vehicle for a second time and was arrested.

A video from one deputy’s dashcam shows Thornton being handcuffed on the bonnet of the vehicle before she is put into the backseat of the patrol car.

But refusing to give up, she somehow wriggles free from her handcuffs, climbs over the partition and drives away in the patrol car.

Police claim she then led them on a chase reaching speeds well in excess of 100mph.

She eventually crashed through a gate and into a tree, where she was arrested and taken into custody.

Thornton is being held at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Centre and will have a bond hearing on Thursday.
