Jaipur: Traffic in the Walled City area of Jaipur was thrown out of gear on Saturday when vehicles ferrying tourists chocked the narrow lanes of old city.
While the cops were deployed across all major junctions and crossing of the old city, including near Amber and Transport Nagar areas the situation remained chaotic as the traffic moved bumper-to-bumper.
The police said that heavy number of tourists coming from New Delhi, Gurugram,NCR, and Western Uttar Pradesh added to congestion problem. '"The traffic has always been a very difficult to manage in congested areas of old Jaipur. There are many tourists entering into the city to celebrate the New Year, hence there was a little problem," said an official.
While police said that they are managing the situation as per the plan, score of the city streets are likely to remain crammed on Sunday. The JLN Marg, Malviya Nagar and Jawahar Circle which boasts of up-scale cafes and pubs, may see footfalls of tourists which can lead to congestion.
The areas like Badi Chauper, MI Road, Amber road, areas near Jal Mahar and Hawa Mahal saw traffic moving at a snail's pace. The police at some areas tried to direct the traffic but its efforts met with little support at long ques were reported at many areas.
Ayush Khandelwa, one of the tourists from New Delhi said that he had come to pink city to join his friends in New Year celebrations. 'There was traffic congestion as soon as we entered into the city limits of Jaipur. May it is a vacation rush," he said. The cops said that problem may also compound on Monday morning when several vehicles will leave Jaipur after vacation break.
