The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. Industry-access to EMBL services is managed by EMBL Enterprise Management Technology Transfer GmbH (EMBLEM).

The EMBL Hamburg Unit is located on the DESY research campus and pursues research in structural biology and the development of instrumentation and computational methodology for macromolecular crystallography (MX) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). EMBL Hamburg is running two MX and one SAXS beamline on the high-brilliance synchrotron radiation source PETRA III. The beamlines are complemented by highly innovative technology platforms for sample handling, laboratories for biophysical sample characterization and computational facilities for data evaluation.

We are seeking for a highly motivated scientist to join the crystallography team at PETRA III to develop a strategy for commercial access to the MX beamlines and to lead its implementation, in collaboration with EMBLEM Technology Transfer GmbH. The successful candidate will support industrial crystal structure determination projects, as a member of a larger team for MX services, headed by Dr. Thomas Schneider.

The post holder will develop and manage a commercial portfolio offering integrated services spanning from initial sample characterization to full crystal structure determination. Promotion of the available services at conferences and acquisition of new industrial clients will be an important task.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field, at least five years of working experience and a strong interest into commercial applications in structural biology. Previous experience of working in a commercial environment will be of advantage. In addition, the following experience and skills will be required:
