The U.S. Census Bureau puts Nevada's estimated 2017 population at just shy of the 3 million mark.

The bureau says Nevada's estimated population of 2,998,039 reflects an annual growth rate of 2 percent.

The Reno Gazette Journal reports that growth rate is second only to Idaho's rate of 2.2 percent.
