Hospitals gear up to deal with emergency cases on New Year’s Eve

Jaipur: City hospitals have geared up for New Year's Eve, and how, by ensuring that surgeons, orthopaedic specialists, plastic surgeons and neurosurgeons remain on duty on December 31. Every year, many accidents are reported in the city on this day.
"We appeal to the people to celebrate New Year's Eve with precaution. Despite that, road accidents due to drunk driving are reported," said Dr S S Yadav, spokesperson, Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital.

Dr Yadav said that they have reviewed availability of doctors at SMS Hospital's Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics (ITO).


"We have increased the number of orthopedicians, neurosurgeons and surgeons who will remain present round-the-clock. Also, we have ensured that plastic surgeons remain present to provide relief in such cases," Dr Yadav said. Every year, over 100 such cases are reported in SMS Hospital, while the number of cases reported in other government and private hospitals may be a lot more. Most cases happen due to rash and drunk driving.


Moreover, 108 ambulance service will provide timely transportation to the patients. Officials have strategically selected locations in the city on the basis of records of past accidents. Ambulances will be stationed in high risk areas so that they provide immediate help in such cases.


Besides, city police has been equipped with more breathalyzers to keep a check on drunk driving.
