Northern Railways will be saving up to Rs 22.35 lakh on electricity bills with the installation of LED lights at its stations in Chandigarh, Ambala, Mohali, and Kharar, but the money will not stay with it.
Reason: The railways will be parting with all of these savings with the contractor who carried out the job of installing the lights, and it will continue to pay the contractor for five years. Ambala senior divisional electrical engineer (general) Sunil Kumar said this was because of a pan-India agreement. “Saving electricity is more important than parting with savings. Railways have not spent a single penny on installation of the LEDs, so we decided to part with the money,” he said.
The contractor recently finished the job installing LEDs at the four stations. “All of them have 100% LED lighting,” said Kumar. Read More…
