PUNE: Seeking to buy soft drinks, a man diverted the attention of a delivery van's driver and made away with Rs 16,000 at Arun Park Society in Thergaon on Thursday.
The driver, Sharad Pinjan (39), of Dehu Road lodged a complaint with the Wakad police. Pinjan told TOI that he went to deliver soft drinks around 2.30pm near Arun Park Society. "A man approached me when I was standing near the van and sought to buy soft drinks for a function at his house," he said.

The driver then sent his delivery boy, Ajay, with the suspect to his house. "I waited near the van for about half-an-hour, but Ajay did not return. So, I decided to go to the address provided by the suspect," Pinjan said.

When Pinjan reached the building, he was told that Ajay left his house long ago with the building's security guard. The suspect then requested Pinjan to come to the former's flat.

When they were in the lift, the suspect told Pinjan that his mother had Rs 2,000 denomination notes. "He requested me to handover my cash to him, which I did as if I was under the influence of something," he said.

After some time, Pinjan found himself on the building's ground floor. "I was feeling uneasy. I met Ajay and the security guard and they too were not feeling well," he said.

He then lodged a complaint with the Wakad police.
