NORMAL — Jayde VanHyfte one-upped her sister by setting a new all-time scoring record at the State Farm Holiday Classic.

VanHyfte scored 32 points in Annawan’s 56-46 win over Danville Schlarman in the small-school championship game. That brings her total to 389 career tournament points and 116 in 2017.

“(Celina’s) happy for me,” VanHyfte said. “She texted me good luck before the game and she knew I was going to break it. She said, ‘I’m proud of you. You’re accomplishing so much.’”

Her first two points broke Celina VanHyfte's record of 358 career SFC points, which were scored from from 2010-13.

“It’s going to be difficult to beat, and you have to be a program that sustains success to keep being invited back," Annawan coach Jason Burkiewicz said. "I don’t know how long it’ll last, but it was cool that she got to beat her sister’s record and there were some neat moments for her out there and they recognized it.”

The VanHyfte’s grandmother, Bonnie Hamer VanHyfte went to grade school in Farmington. Jayde, Celina, Morgan and Drake’s mom, Val (Wancket) VanHyfte is in the Bradley Hall of Fame.
