South Africa players demand Virat-Anushka reception in SA; series postponed

India’s upcoming tour of South Africa has been indefinitely postponed after the hosts demanded a wedding reception of Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma before the series. The Proteas made the demand after learning that the newly-weds are on a spree of hosting receptions across India.

Actress Anushka Sharma has accompanied Indian skipper Virat Kohli to South Africa for the big tour. Realising that the couple has arrived together, South Africa players chanted ‘Bhai, party de’ at the airport while receiving them. However, things took an ugly turn after the adamant hosts threatened to pull out of the series if they were not treated with a wedding reception.

Skipper Virat Kohli finally budged to the demands of the players and announced to organise a reception. “We’re touring several nations this year. I’ve decided to treat the players of all those teams before every series, so that the matches are not affected,” he said.

Sri Lankan players, having recently played against India, are upset as they could not attend the receptions in Delhi and Mumbai while the matches were going on. Skipper Thisara Perera, who has decided to return to India for a series after a short trip to Sri Lanka, announced that his team will demand a reception from Virat-Anushka soon. “We will schedule another series with India just so that we can be a part of the reception,” he said.

Inside reports reveal that the Proteas are demanding a reception to keep Kohli off the field. The flamboyant batsman has been in prime form in 2017 and any distraction is believed to work in favour of South Africa. “Virat is a threat. We don’t need to distract Rohit Sharma because we don’t have flat wickets here,” said a Cricket South Africa (CSA) spokesperson at the request of anonymity.
