Mike Pence's Vacation Home Neighbors Trolled Him With a 'Make America Gay Again' Banner

Mike Pence's holiday home neighbors have posted a rainbow banner featuring the slogan "Make America Gay Again" on their property, trolling the vice president who is known for his conservative views.

The residents of the Aspen, Colorado property placed the banner on a pillar at the end of a driveway to the homes, The Aspen Times reported.

The publication reported that the banner was put up by the daughters of the couple staying in the home neighboring Pence's vacation retreat and their girlfriends.

Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo said one of his deputies was present when the man who lives in the home came out and first draped the banner over the stone pillar.

"He was real sheepish and thought he might be confronted by the Secret Service or deputies who'd tell him he couldn't do it," DiSalvo said. "When they said, 'We're not here to control your free speech rights,' they came out with chili for the officers.

"They've been really nice to us."

Pence’s hardline conservative views are well-known, and in 2006 he supported a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would have defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman. As a Representative for Indiana, he voted against a bill banning discrimination against homosexuals.

According to a New Yorker report in October, President Donald Trump joked that Pence wanted to “hang” all gay people in a meeting with a legal expert.

In January, LGBTQ protesters held a "queer dance party" outside a home where Pence was staying in Washington, D.C. shortly after Trump's inauguration.

Pence and his family arrived in Colorado on Tuesday, and are expected to leave Monday.
