Patna: Three members of a family were charred to death and three others sustained burn injuries after their huts caught fire at Anwarpur village under Saraiya police station area in Vaishali district on Friday night. The victims have been identified as Sudama Devi (65) and her grandchildren Chandani Kumari (8) and Manish Kumar (10).

The fire broke out when a high-voltage electric wire snapped and fell on one Ramesh Mahto's hut around 10.30pm. All the family members were fast asleep when the incident occurred. The fire tender took 20 minutes to reach the spot. However, four huts were gutted by then. District fire officer Shyam Kumar Pandey said the fire was not strong, but the winds fanned the flames.

"Sudama and her two grandchildren were sleeping in a separate hut. The trio died by the time the rescuers reached the spot," SHO of Saraiya police station Raman Kumar said.
