Railway strikes are likely to trigger travel chaos for 24 hours on New Year’s Eve as some of the busiest stations of the nation might be confronting with delays and cancellations.
According to the members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union on South Western Railway (SWR) and CrossCountry, they would be walking out over a long-running battles relating to guards, rosters and Sunday working.
This SWR strike is expected to affect services in and out of London’s Waterloo station that is one of the country’s most significant railway transportation hubs.
Mr. Cash mentioned that he had already written to Chris Gayling who is the Transport Secretary with an aim to express his concern at the ‘lack of clarity and contradictory messages’.
Rail Minister Paul Maynard commented on the plans of RMT to hold strikes as ‘disgraceful’. And the SWR managing director Andy Mellors said that his company would do everything in its power with a view to keep passengers moving during the unnecessary strike.
But then, he did ask passengers to check prior to travelling and check for queues in such circumstances.
