Fun run makes cold weather adjustments

EAST PEORIA — Get Lit New Year's Eve Fun Run-Walk organizers announced changes to the event because of the bitter cold temperatures being forecast for Sunday evening.

The region is under a wind chill advisory, according to the Naitonal Weather Service in Lincoln. Wind chills of between 20 below to 35 below are expected Sunday evening. "People who will be outdoors the next few days, especially on New Year's Eve, need to be sure they are properly dressed for the bitter cold," the NWS said in a news release.

Get Lit organizers said participants can opt out of running or walking through the Folepi's Winter Wonderland display. Those that elect to participate in the run, which begins at 11:50 p.m., must be in cold-weather attire.

Get Lit participants will have the option of driving through the display from 9 to 11:30 p.m. after it closes to general admission for the evening. The drive-through will be closed to all traffic at 11:30 for the fun run.

Participants who ordered sweatshirts can pick them up starting at 9 p.m. in the Lincoln School gym. Those who registered for the pizza party can meet at the East Peoria Avantis at midnight.

Get Lit organizers say 191 people had registered, making it the second-largest field in the event's 17-year history.
