The body of a 60-year old New Braunfels man was discovered along Padre Island National Seashore on Friday, an officer with the Kleberg County Sheriff's Department confirmed Saturday.

The body was foundin the surf about two miles south of the Malaquite Beach Visitor Center.

William Botts, an employee of the Padre Island National Seashore, said the man's body was found by visitors around 6:20 p.m. Friday.

"Park rangers responded to the visitor's call and retrieved the body from the water Friday evening," he said. "The rangers discovered that the body had severe blunt force trauma to his head and that his truck was nearby the crime scene."

Park rangers later contacted Kleberg County Sheriff's office to investigate.

Lt. David Mendoza with the office said the man was identified Saturday as 60-year-old Kevin Francis O'Toole of New Braunfels.

Mendoza said the man's body has been transported to the Nueces County Medical Examiner's office where an autopsy is pending.

"We are investigating this as a questionable death," he said. "Until we hear back from the medical examiner's office we do not suspect foul play."

Botts said the park has not closed nor blocked off the area where the body was found and is open for business.

"Unfortunately, incidents like this are all too common," he said. "Things like this happen here and there with as many visitors as we receive a year, but the park has not closed and is running on normal business hours."
