The latest models are still showing a slight chance of a wintry mix across parts of the southeast, but that does not include metro Atlanta. From day one, the challenge with this forecast was whether or not we would have the moisture in place to support snow. What hasn’t changed, is the frigid air heading our way.

The European model is still showing a small amount of moisture for areas south of Interstate 20, but even if that does verify, it wouldn’t have any impacts.

The GFS model continues to keep ALL of the moisture south and west of metro Atlanta. This model had the most drastic change, and it is now in more agreement with the other models.

Even though the confidence is very high that we won’t have a wintry mix New Year’s Eve/Day it’s important to note that the forecast can flip-flop in the other direction just as quickly. Again, the latest forecast doesn’t have any wintry mix for metro Atlanta.

Now the focus is the Arctic Blast heading our way. We will experience some of the coldest temperatures of the season with lows in the low 20s/teens with the wind chill 5°-10° colder than that. These ice cold conditions will stay in place for several days, so make sure you are prepared for the hard freeze on the way. Right now it looks like Tuesday and Thursday morning will have the coldest temperatures. Also, Thursday we might not get above freezing ALL DAY.
