BHUBANESWAR: Construction of a multimodal hub at the city railway station is slated to start soon with the state government on Friday finalising the design. The multimodal hub will be developed in sync with other
smart city projects along the Janpath.
The project, to be developed by the
Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), will come up on the railway station and its surrounding areas. "A multi-storeyed building will come up at the entrance of the station. Besides, the hub will have state-of-the-art amenities, commercial complexes, multi-level parking, an international-standard bus terminal, rainwater harvesting systems, firefighting facilities with pump rooms, well-maintained internal roads and attractive green landscape," an official source said.
The design was approved at a high-level meeting here under the chairmanship of chief secretary A P Padhi. Officials of the
East Coast Railway (ECoR) also attended it. The BDA had engaged a Bengaluru-based agency to finalise the design of the project after scrapping the initial design which was conceptualised before Bhubaneswar got its smart city tag.
A proposal to sign a
MoU between the BDA and ECoR was also approved in the meeting. "The construction of the project will start following the signing of the MoU," said an official.
The BDA will supervise the station's development work. As the station comes under the smart city district, the work will be integrated in the smart city project. The overall project cost would be around Rs 500 crore.
