New Delhi, Dec 30: Eighteen-year-old Priyanka, a four-time karate national gold medal winner and seven state golds (including three in taekwondo) who is diagnosed with leukemia (blood cancer) is running out of fund for her medical treatment.
Her mother Prabhwati Devi, who works at a factory earns a meager Rs 5,000 a month. Her father, who is a drunkard has not contributed a penny for her treatment. The burden of all the seven sisters is on her mother who is running out of funds now.
Watching her mother struggling to collect money for her treatment, Priyanka has asked mother to stop her treatment and leave it on fate.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Priyanka’s coach said,”She is a black belt holder and was all set to fly to Malaysia for her first international championship last year. During practice, she suddenly started getting fatigued and feeling weak. It was then that her leukemia was diagnosed in June 2016 and treatment started at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Her monthly medicines are now for at least Rs 25,000. Her mother does not have money to even buy the food prescribed by doctors.”
The gold medallist has also sought financial aid for her treatment, saying,”I am fighting this battle against cancer but soon I’ll be fine; I don’t fear anything. We are poor and don’t have adequate funds for treatment, please help whoever can.”
