Perumal said that most political parties which ruled local councils in the North and East in the past had been corrupt.
He said that some political parties diverted the funds they received to the Government instead of using it to improve the lives of the people in the area.
Perumal said that divisions and rifts in some political parties had also affected the development of Tamil areas.
Meanwhile, Perumal and his supporters were arrested last morning and later released on the charge of violating elections laws.
Perumal and his supporters had been distributing leaflets in Batticaloa when they were arrested. (Colombo Gazette)
