That’s according to former Reds striker and talkSPORT pundit Dean Saunders, who’s warned his old side about the Dutchman’s attitude when things aren’t going his way.

Liverpool revealed on Wednesday that they had agreed to sign Van Dijk from Southampton in a deal that will make him the most expensive defender of all-time.

And that announcement brought an end to a six-month transfer saga during which the 26-year-old had handed in a transfer request after he was stopped from heading to Anfield.

Van Dijk ultimately returned to first-team action at Southampton but this season has failed to show the form that made him one of the world’s most in-demand players.

Saunders has now claimed Klopp must lay down the law to the Liverpool-bound ace to make sure he does not repeat the behaviour he exhibited at St. Mary’s.

"I have seen Van Dijk with the chips down and I've got to be honest, I hope I'm wrong, but his attitude has got to be better than he has shown," he told talkSPORT.

"If I'm Liverpool manager I might think: 'He'll do that to me.'

"If I was Klopp, I would say to Van Dijk: ‘I’m going to pay £75m for you, I'm going to give you £200,000 a week, all I want from you is an hour and a half's training from you every day flat out and try your best on a Saturday, is that a deal?

"'If you come in one day and you're not having a go in training, then you are breaking the contract.'

"If he doesn't do that, he will get found out."

Van Dijk is most likely to make his Liverpool debut when they face Merseyside rivals Everton in the FA Cup next Friday.
