Annawan 60, St. Joseph-Ogden 42
BLOOMINGTON –– Jayde VanHyfte put in a season-high 40 points and the Bravettes earned a spot in the finals at the State Farm Holiday Classic with a win over St. Joseph-Ogden.
VanHyfte is now just two points away from becoming the all-time leading scorer at the State Farm Classic, which is currently held by her sister Celina VanHyfte.
VanHyfte’s big day included 16 field goals and 5 of 9 from the charity stripe.
Annawan survived an 8-22 day from the free throw line.
The teams were even after eight minutes, before Annawan outscored the Spartans 18-8 to grab a 10-point halftime lead. VanHyfte scored 25 points in the opening half.
Annawan stretched the lead to 46-30 after three quarters.
Kendall Gripp scored seven for the Bravettes and Jordyn Sierens had six.
Bree Timble led St. Joseph-Ogden with 17 points. Peyton Crowe added 14. The Spartans attempted just three free throws in the game.
The top two ranked teams in the state will get together today for the championship game as the Bravettes (#1 in 1A) take on Danville Schlarman (#2 in 1A). Schlarman defeated Bloomington Central 74-44 to advance to the title game.
Both teams enter tonight’s contest undefeated on the year.
