Meet Our Snowbirds
Walton County Snowbirds come from all over. This year we are featuring some of these interesting and diverse people. To meet more – come join us!
If the Walton County Snowbirds need a volunteer, it’s hard for Karen and Joe Moosekian to say no. Since they first signed up as members 12 years ago, Joe has risen through the ranks of the board, ultimately becoming co-president and then past co-president last year. He has also served as entertainment chair for the past two years, lining up top-notch acts for the members’ general meetings. This is Karen’s fourth year as board secretary, and she has also been an activity leader for the craft group and helped with the Ladies’ Luncheon. Recently, she has been responsible for the blood drive (one of many ways winter visitors give back to the local community). And she’s written the newspaper articles about the Snowbirds for the last four years, finally “retiring” from that job this year. Both have also worked on the prize committee.
Clearly, their efforts for the group are a labor of love. "Belonging to the Snowbirds affords so many opportunities for socializing, since I consider myself a people person," Karen explained. "I look forward to all the activities that bring friends together." With the snowbirds, Karen and Joe have tried ballroom dancing, the book discussion group and Joe even tried pilates one year. "Having a core group like this allows for opportunities that might not occur if left to your own initiative," Karen concluded.
Karen’s advice to anybody thinking about joining the group? "Life is short and there is no time like the present to try out over 30 different activities available to members. Why not participate? Being active, meeting new and diverse people who have similar interests — what’s not to like?"
Joe and Karen spend their non-winter time in Rochester Hills Michigan.
