City of Cañon City amends water rate schedule
During a special city council meeting on Dec. 18, the city council approved a change to water billing and rates. Effective Jan. 1, water billing will occur on a monthly basis instead of quarterly. Monthly bills will go out approximately on the 26th of the month and will be due by the 25th of the following month. All auto payments will be taken the 20th of the month. During this time residences and businesses will continue to be billed under the 2017 water rates. Starting April 1, 2018, the new water rates will be in effect.
The adopted Ordinance No. 45, Series 2017: Schedule D can be viewed on the city's website at: www.canoncity.org/departments/agenda121817.php. An insert regarding the new monthly billing will be included in every billing cycle.

Starpoint Children's Services will host meetings geared toward preventing child maltreatment
Fremont County has a vision that all children are valued, healthy, and thriving. The community goal is to prevent child maltreatment. Officials are seeking public partners' input. Child Maltreatment Prevention Planning requires voices from different people throughout the community so everyone can be part of the solution.
Starpoint Children's Services will be hosting five key meetings this year. They invite community member's to come to these meetings and do the following:
· Share your perspective about what you think will help parents with being the types of parents they want to be.
· Share what you think works in our community to support parents and what you think needs to be improved.
· Think about how we can deliver services in a way that reaches parents better in their everyday lives.
Participants will be at the table with people who will share their views on what the community needs to do next based on what the data shows and what input is received.
The first meeting will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Public Health Office, located at 201 N. Sixth St. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
