The Padmavati update we all have been waiting for is finally here. The Central Board of Film Certification’s examining committee finally reviewed the film on December 28 and have come to a conclusion that the film can be certified UA. However, the board has asked for a few changes in the film and its title to ensure no sentiments are hurt further. The suggested modifications include changing the title to Padmavat, to indicate that the film is a work of fiction based on the poem by Mallik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540.
Other modifications include use of three disclaimers, one of which clarifies that the practice of Sati is not being glorified. Some changes have also been suggested for the song Ghoomar starring Deepika Padukone so as it befits the character of Goddess Queen Rani Padmini.
While the decision on the certification has been taken, it will be issued only once the makers come back with confirmation about all the changes being made. The update comes in time before the year 2017 ends and looks like we might get to know about this Sanjay Leela Bhansali film’s final release date by the start of the year 2018.
According to sources, the film was reviewed with a balanced approach so that neither the filmmakers or the section that has expressed concern against its content feel ignored. The special panel appointed by CBFC only helped the board to take a balanced, final decision. According to ANI, the special panel that reviewed Padmavati on Thursday comprised Arvind Singh from Udaipur, Dr.Chandramani Singh & Prof K.K. Singh of Jaipur University. All the concerns regarding claimed historical events and the fictionalization by the filmmaker were discussed before reaching upon the conclusion to go ahead with the certification. The board feels that changing the title will be a big step in getting all the parties against the film so far on board with its smooth release. It can be recalled that in an interview a few weeks ago, Karni Sena Chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi had expressed angst over the film’s name being Padmavati, which bears historical importance to the Rajputs. “Why didn’t Bhansali title Padmavati as Hiravati Or Lilavati and make a fiction like Baahubali?” he had asked. Now, with CBFC’s suggestion to change the title, this Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh starrer might finally be able to see the light of day.
