New Delhi, Dec 30: Vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu has been duped by a fake advertisement of a medication that promised to help lose a certain amount of weight in 28 days. During a discussion in the Rajya Sabha, Naidu, who is the House Chairman narrated his ordeal.
He told the members that shortly after becoming the Vice-President, he came across an advertisement that promised a medication that would help in weight loss. “It was priced Rs 1,230,” he said.
Adding further, Naidu shared that after he had paid the money, he received a packet a few days later. On opening the pack, he found a note that asked him to pay around Rs 1000 more in order to get the delivery of the original medication.
Soon after, Naidu had sent a letter to Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan about the matter and the latter immediately ordered an inquiry. The probe revealed that the company that issued the ad was based in the United States.
Paswan replied that his ministry is working on a new legislation in a bid to act against companies that make false promises through advertisements.
