ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan claimed on Friday that fresh documents show that the Sharif family has 11 companies in a Gulf country as he levelled more allegations against ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family.
Addressing a press conference, he specially targeted former finance minister Senator Ishaq Dar and dubbed him as a “front man” of Sharif.
These new documents he claimed to have uncovered display that the Sharif family has 11 companies and, one of them owns 52 villas in the Gulf country.
“Imagine how many villas the other companies must own,” Imran alleged, adding that another “discovery” made by his people says that the companies in the Gulf state have money pouring into them from Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
“From Switzerland, there is an inflow of 60 million local currency of the Gulf country, and another 11 million. There’s more money flowing in from other parts of the world which shows that they also have businesses in those parts of the world,” he claimed.
Moving on to Dar, he alleged that the former finance minister has only been sent on leave and not sacked because he is involved in laundering money along with Nawaz Sharif and his family.
“Why do you think Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi gave Dar his own plane to leave Pakistan, it was because they were all afraid he was going to end up telling the truth in court like he did before.”
Imran said his question is why has Abbasi not told Pakistan about the LNG deal he has made with another Gulf country. “Abbasi said he will disclose the terms of the contract on the Parliament floor and then later stated that the deal is confidential,” Imran said, asking how a deal made with Pakistan’s money could be secret.
“When these people say they are trying to save democracy, they mean they are trying to save their own thievery — that’s what unites them,” the PTI chairman alleged, adding that when people say Nawaz Sharif is the name of an ideology, they mean it’s an ideology based on corruption.
“I would like to ask the judiciary why it is taking pressure from this one powerful family. They should either get rid of the contempt of court law or apply it on everyone equally. This father and daughter duo say things against the Supreme Court and the judiciary and get away with it while the common man is reprimanded for even the smallest comment.”
Imran said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which is not even a part of the judiciary, sent out his arrest warrants for a remark he had made, while the apex court has not said anything to Sharif for his tirade against it. He said Dar owned a bicycle shop before he met Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. “When Dar was riding motorbike I was purchasing the flat in London.”
Meanwhile, Dar has accused the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of intentionally nominating him in “manipulated” cases and “making mountains out of molehills.”
Dar, who is currently in London due to his health issues, hinted that some forces are out to get him, saying that the reference instituted against him an accountability court has been maneuvered in order to target him. “One day the people of Pakistan will know the full truth about this charade,” he told Geo News TV.
He pointed to expansion of the mandate of the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) beyond the four Sharif family-owned London apartments and said it started spreading from one place to another and whole new issues were created.
