TORRINGTON — A city man accused of selling heroin in Winsted on multiple occasions was arraigned Friday in Superior Court in Torrington, according to judicial records.
Christopher J. Vargas, 22, of 54 Riverside Ave., Torrington, was arrested Thursday and charged with three counts of sale of certain illegal drugs.
According to an affidavit, Vargas sold heroin to a witness cooperating with the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, which “has been conducting an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of illegal narcotics, namely heroin, within the town of Winsted, Connecticut.”
Vargas came to be considered a suspect over the course of the investigation, according to the affidavit.
The witness, who Corporal Jared Turner of the Brookfield Police Department said had previously helped law enforcement arrest drug dealers and provided information “considered credible and reliable,” identified Vargas as the man who had sold the heroin.
Police saw the witness buy heroin on multiple occasions in Winsted, including in June 2017 from a man later identified as Vargas, according to the affidavit.
Vargas’ bail was set at $75,000 cash or surety and the case was transferred to Part A proceedings, where more serious matters are adjudicated. Vargas is next scheduled to appear in court Jan. 17.
