Motorist wanted on felony warrant turns gun on himself during traffic stop in Town of Brookfield

A Saturday morning traffic stop in the Town of Brookfield turned deadly when the driver, facing a felony arrest, fatally shot himself.

Police said they were conducting the stop at 12:22 a.m. when the driver turned into the parking lot of the Quality Inn hotel, 20150 W. Blue Mound Road.

Then, the dispatch center informed officers the driver had a felony warrant for his arrest.

As they attempted to take him into custody, police said, the man pulled a gun and shot himself.

Police said they have asked the state Department of Justice to investigate the matter as it is considered an officer-involved shooting.

DOJ, at the request of the Town of Brookfield Police, is leading an officer-involved death investigation. A suspect died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound after Town of Brookfield PD attempted to make an arrest. DCI agents are on the scene. ?s can be directed to DOJ comms.

City of Brookfield police, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and the Town of Brookfield Fire and Rescue Department assisted at the shooting scene.
