The CSU women's basketball team used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from visiting San Jose State and post a 63-48 win Saturday at Moby Arena.
The Rams led 43-38 heading into the final quarter but outscored the Spartans 20-10 to improve to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain West. San Jose State dropped to 4-9, 1-1.
The Rams' defense keyed the win, their sixth straight against San Jose State, which was coming off a 79-66 win over Utah State. The Rams held the Spartans to 8 for 27 shooting (29.6 percent), including 1 for 8 (12.5 percent) from 3-point range to pull away.
The Rams shot 14 for 36 (39 percent) from the floor in the second half.
CSU entered the game ranked ninth in the nation and tops in the Mountain West in field goal percentage defense (33.7 percent) this season, as well as ninth nationally and best in the conference in three-point field goal percentage defense (25 percent).
The Rams also out-rebounded the Spartans 45-35.
The Spartans were averaging 73.3 points per game entering the contest.
Stine Austgulen led the Rams with 17 points, hitting 6 of 9 shots from the floor, including 5 for 8 from 3-point range. Grace Colaivalu had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Hannah Tvrdy had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Annie Brady had nine points and 10 rebounds.
San Jose State was led by Myzhanique Ladd's 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Rams, who lost their MW opener 62-58 at home against Boise State, hit the road Wednesday when they travel to San Diego State.
