MBABANE – Grade VII results will be released by the end of today.

This was according to the Minister of Education and Training, Phineas Magagula, during an interview yesterday.
Information gathered last night was that a special Cabinet sitting has been called today where the ministers are expected to review the results.

Magagula said he would today meet the Examination Council of Swaziland (ECoS) where it is expected that a briefing about the results and possible release of them will be discussed.

He confirmed that he had an appointment between 8 and 9am  with ECoS and stated that if the results were presented to him, he would follow certain channels before they could be released.

Elaborating on the procedure to be followed, Magagula said after receiving the results, he would then present them to Cabinet for approval.

If Cabinet gives them a thumbs up, the minister will then call a press conference and release the results. Magagula was asked about the possibility of all these processes to be completed by today to which he responded to the positive and added that the ministry’s velocity was high.

Magagula then said, “Either way, if the results are not released tomorrow (today), they will be out by the end of this month.”
This publication reported yesterday that the ECoS Registrar, Dr Edmund Mazibuko, hinted that the results might be released today based on the progress they had made regarding the marking.

News of the release comes at a time when the public was not at ease about the possible date of release.
In that article, Mazibuko said they were not sure when the results would be released because there were still logistics which needed to be addressed.

The registrar said after the meeting with council, only then could they contact minister Magagula to confirm that the results were ready.
Mazibuko said the lack of markers had really set them back in terms of releasing the results earlier and they had to work over the Christmas holidays to ensure that the results were out on time.

According to Mazibuko, there were a very few markers yet the volume of the scripts was very large, particularly since over 20 000 pupils sat for the Swaziland Primary Certificate (SPC) examination.

Last year, the SPC results were released on December 30, while the Form III results were released four days later. It should be noted that a total of 27 966 candidates sat for the SPC exam last year.
