ERIE - Monmouth-Roseville sophomore Carly Gillen turned in a double-double in a 54-37 win over Fulton at the Warkins Cardinal Classic on Thursday. The 6-foot
Gillen turned in 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and pulled down 13 rebounds.
“Just her presence on the floor,” said M-R coach Jim Cole. “Her length and athleticism is a lot of it. The other night, we looked at the scorebook and she had 21 points. We were like where did that come from? She’s someone we look to score and our offense needs to go through her a little bit.”
Sharpshooter Lily Cundiff broke loose for M-R in the second quarter with three 3s to give the Titans a 20-13 lead with four minutes left before halftime.
Freshman guard Kelci Shelton had another good game for the Titans with several good drives to the hoop and 9 points, connecting on 4 of her 5 shots from the field. M-R senior Cora Neal also scored 9 points for the Titans. It marked the third game in two days for the Titans, moving to 3-0 in the tourney and a big game today (on Friday) with Knoxville. The Blue Bullets (16-3) have also gone 3-0 in the Erie Tournament and will play the Titans at 6 p.m. on Friday.
The Titans won their fifth-straight game and improved to 13-5 on the season.
M-R sophomore Lily Cundiff scored a season-high 17 points on 4-of-6 from 3-point range and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in a 51-41 victory over Mercer County on Thursday afternoon. Sophomore teammate Carly Gillen also added 12 points for the Titans. M-R junior Camryn Jones, meanwhile, pulled down 5 rebounds.
