Mary Jane Buchen

Mary Jane Buchen, 92, of Bushnell passed away at 3 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at Courtyard Estates in Bushnell. She was born on April 26, 1925, in rural Avon, Warren County, Ill., to Merle and Mary Titterington Spurgeon. She married Phillip R. Buchen in Bushnell on Dec. 28, 1944, and he preceded her in death on July 19, 2010. Mary Jane is survived by three sons and four daughters – Janice (Ed) McManus of Chicago, Michael (Faye) Buchen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Patrick (Susan) Buchen of Humansville, Mo., Rebecca (Steve) Vosburgh of Hoboken, N.J., Dennis Buchen of Avon, Mary Ann (Buz) Carlson of St. Charles, Ill., and Sara (Andy) Ray of Chicago; 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Betty Garner and Kay Fisher) and a sister-in-law (Virginia Westfall).
Mary Jane was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Bushnell where she was also a member of the Women’s Guild. She also sold World Book Encyclopedias for 20 years.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Bushnell with Father Patrick O’Neal officiating. Visitation will be held at St. Bernard’s Church on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 from 4–7 p.m. Burial will be in the Prairie City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Bernard’s or St. Augustine Catholic Church, Courtyard Estates or OSF Hospice.
