Despite a strong start to the season, the Armenian winger has fallen down the pecking order and reportedly out of love with Jose Mourinho.
Mkhitaryan has failed to start a Premier League match since United were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at Stamford at the start of November.
Speculation has been rife as to whether the 28-year-old will be on his way out the club.
And according to Sky Italia, Mkhitaryan has been offered an escape route by Serie A title-challengers Inter Milan.

The publication reports Luciano Spalletti's side are monitoring a number of midfielder targets including Javier Pastore and Gerard Deulofeu.
Inter director Piero Ausilio recenty said of Pastore. "We have to understand what Paris Saint-Germain want to do.
"I don't think anyone can argue with his quality. We have to understand what PSG want to do.
"He is an important player, we are pleased that he sees Inter as a possibility, but it's premature to talk about anything else."

As for Mkhitaryan, he may be hoping to save his place at Old Trafford in similar fashion to team-mate Luke Shaw.
The United left-back looked destined to leave the club after falling out with Mourinho.
However, Shaw has started four matches for the Red Devils in December.
Mkhitaryan will be hoping to feature when United take on Southampton tomorrow.
