GURUGRAM: A representative of the women who were in the car that allegedly hit a biker near Cyber City on Wednesday evening has told police that they were not involved in the crash and the motorcyclist had skidded off the road and hit the divider by himself.
Police have registered an FIR based on prima facie evidence and impounded the car. The vehicle, however, had dents and scratches that matched the account of witnesses.

After the accident in the Golf Course Road-Sikanderpur underpass, the three women and two children in the car apparently went to a friend's place in DLF I and had dinner.

Ajay Singh (21), a worker with a private company, died on the spot allegedly after he was hit by the speeding car from the left. Ajay, the eldest son in the family, hailed from Nagla Firoj Mohanpur in Ghaziabad but stayed in Dabri with his parents, younger brother and sister.

According to witnesses, Ajay was coming towards Cyber City through the underpass on his bike — DL9S BK 6393. He was near the opening of the underpass when the Toyota Corolla Altis — HR26 CR 0135 — hit him.

Such was the impact that Ajay skidded on the road and hit the divider. His helmet broke after hitting the divider and he suffered severe injuries on the head and ribs. Ajay lost a lot of blood through the nose and succumbed to injuries on the spot.

Witnesses told the police that a few other bikers had surrounded the car after it hit Ajay. Soon, a crowd gathered and two women got out of the vehicle. But instead of helping the victim, the women allegedly got into an argument with the commuters, threatened them and fled the spot in their car.

The DLF II police station lodged an FIR on Wednesday night under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304a (causing death by negligence) of the IPC against the unknown person driving the car.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the car is owned by one Rahul Anil Ahuja, a resident of DLF phase IV. The probe suggests that Ahuja's wife, too, was in the car at the time of the accident.

After the accident was reported in TOI, a representative of the women approached the police and denied hitting the biker. The representative claimed that Ajay had hit the divider and the women had stopped to call the police and ambulance, but couldn't get through.

According to the representative, one of three women was driving the car.

The vehicle that the police impounded on Thursday has dents, scratches on the right side as well as skid marks on the tyre — signs that match the account by witnesses. Prima facie, it appears that Ajay was on the right side of the road when the car allegedly hit him. He fell to his right and suffered the injuries on that side of the body.

"We have asked the car's owner to produce the woman who was at wheel at the time of the accident. We will also get the mechanical and forensic tests done for the car, after which we will take further action. The women are yet to record their statements," said Sudeep Kumar, SHO, DLF phase II police station.

Meanwhile, Ajay's relatives took his body to their village in Ghaziabad for the final rituals.

"We want justice and action against the person who was driving the car. How could they just leave him lying injured on the road? They could have taken him to the hospital and we could have managed his treatment. It is so tragic for us. He was their eldest son and they received a call about his death. The parents, especially his mother, is devastated," said Monu Singh, Ajay's cousin.
