Gary Anderson and Phil Taylor are due to meet in the quarter-finals tonight

Anderson booked his place in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 4-2 win over Steve West last night in which he suffered with a back injury.

The Scotsman looked all at sea as he struggled to hit his doubles but eventually battled through to see off the world No 37.

Anderson has been scheduled on in this evening's session where he will meet Phil Taylor.

He has undergone treatment this morning and is resting up in a bid to win his fitness race in a bid to avoid withdrawing.

Pyke said on Sky Sports: "News is, Gary Anderson has been receiving treatment on his back problem this morning.

"He's resting up now and he's hopeful of being fit and firing to take on Taylor later tonight."

Sky Sports pundit Wayne Mardle fears Anderson could be crushed by The Power if his injury persists.

“The way he was holding his leg it looked like something to do with the Sciatic nerve,” Mardle said after the match.

“My wife suffers from Sciatica and she always says there is a pain kind of where Gary was holding himself.

“I hope not because it’s hard to concentrate when you’re in pain but towards the end he sped up and seemed to score better… I don’t know.”

John Part was equally concerned for the Scotsman in the studio and found his struggle hard to watch.

“Yeah that was some classic bad Gary Anderson finishing,” the Canadian said.

“I think he was just in such discomfort that he couldn’t stand rigidly enough to get the release consistent, moving around the board.

“He seemed to be okay scoring with down-the-middle darts but it was painful to watch him trying to hit a double, let alone the physical pain he was probably in.”
