A BJP member on Friday flagged concerns about elderly people not getting their pensions for the past one year as their biometrics do not match their records in the Aadhaar database due to advanced age.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Sushil Kumar Singh, a BJP member from Bihar, also raised the issue of LPG subsidy to the tune of Rs 190 crore transferred to the account of telecom company Airtel and demanded criminal action against the culprits.

"Old people are unable to get pensions since last one year as their thumbprints and retina scan do not match," Singh said.

The member said his mother could not get a SIM card in her own name due to a problem in the matching of fingerprints.

"The government should seriously think about resolving this issue," he said.

With regard to the Airtel incident, Singh said transferring someone's money into bank accounts other than those mentioned by the customer amounted to a criminal act.

"Though the petroleum ministry has taken action but there should be criminal proceedings against the culprits," Singh demanded.

A large number of LPG consumers had complained about non-credit of the LPG subsidy amounts into their earlier bank accounts, and on verification, it was found that these complaints pertained to those consumers who were Airtel customers and have opened an account in Airtel Payments Bank.

As per reports, Airtel has written to National Payments Corporation of India promising to return Rs 190 crore, along with interest, to the consumers' original bank accounts that were linked to the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
