24-year-old victim in Manawatu river drowning

Police have named the young man who died at the Manawatu River on December 27 as Tyrone Junior Hempel.

Hempel was 24 years old when his body was pulled from the river at Awapuni, in Palmerston North.

CPR was administered, but he could not be revived.

The death will be referred to the Coroner.
