NEW YORK: A fire tore through an apartment building in New York's borough of the Bronx late Thursday, killing at least 12 people and leaving four others seriously injured, the mayor said.

A one-year-old child was among the 12 who died in the blaze, which is now under control, Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters.

"We may lose others as well," he said.
