Google honours noted Kannada writer Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa's 113th birthday with a sketch doodle
Internet search engine giant Google marks noted Kannada writer Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa's 113th birthday with a sketch doodle.

The writer was popularly known as Kuvempu among his admirers who deem him all time greatest writer in the Kannada language whose writings depict vividly the nature and its wonders through his word craft.

The doodle depicts the writer sitting in the lap of nature with a bird flying up the sky and writing. The logo of Google has been written with calligraphy of Kannada script.

The illustrator of the Google doodle is Upamanyu Bhattacharyya and letterer is Swati Shelar who have aptly created the home page depiction by showing the writer surrounded by nature.

Kuvempu (1904-1994) was born in Kuppalli and graduated from the Maharaja College of Mysore and took to teaching career. He wrote profusely and retired in 1960 as the vice-chancellor of Mysore University. He published 25 collections of poetry, 10 plays and 2 novels, besides doing some biographies, literary criticism, story collections, essays and epics. He won the Jnanpith Award and was honoured with Padma Vibhushan title besides many other awards.
